Baby is saved in Syria - level 3

Baby is saved in Syria - level 3

It was a rescue that amazed the world. A baby girl pulled from the rubble alive after an air strike in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

That baby was two-year-old Ghina Bassam and her father has spoken about the moment he realized his entire family was missing.

“I walked into the house and found it bombed. My wife and seven daughters were there. They said they found three but could not find the other four. We went to the hospital and found two of them. They kept looking until they found Ghina. They heard her voice so they dug until they uncovered her. Thank God!”

Their house has been completely destroyed and their uncle described the scene when the airstrike happened.

“It was crowded with people and children. We don’t have bulldozers to dig and there’s another child, an eight-year-old girl. We cannot find her. She’s my niece. All the girls here are my nieces.”

Ghina’s mother and one of her sisters are still missing. Another sister’s suffered a broken leg, but miraculously, despite being completely buried in rubble, little Ghina survived the attack without any major physical injuries.

Difficult words: rubble (broken parts of a building), dig (move earth).
