Shark and a seal - level 3
Great white sharks--beneath the water live the world's largest predatory fish. They grow up to 20 feet (6 metres) in length and weigh more than 2 thousand kilograms.
There have been plenty of shark sightings off the Massachusetts coast this summer, but none quite like this. Nature at its best, with a shark eyeing its prey, and jumps out of the water to grab a seal.
Dr. Greg Skomal from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries was working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy in Cape Cod when this footage was recorded. He said they tagged two more great whites in that area. Both were about 12 feet long (3.7 meters).
It appears this seal was lucky and escaped. But maybe only safe, until the shark's next meal.
Difficult words: sighting (an instance of seeing something special), eye (to look at closely), prey (an animal which is hunted and killed for food), grab (to catch), footage (video), tag (to put a tag on something – to identify it).
