Life in space - level 3
This is what most of us use when nature calls here on Earth – the humble, hand-flush toilet. But have you ever thought about what happens when you need to use the loo in space? Thankfully, British astronaut Tim Peake has come to the rescue to explain.
A few days ago, he showed us how to brew a cup of coffee up there, so we knew he would need to visit the toilet sooner or later…
“And of course, the answer to the big question everybody asks – how do you go to the loo in space? It really is quite simple.
Here's the tube you pee in. Take the cap off, turn on the fan, and the airflow keeps everything going down the pipe. And also, for number two, the air flow does the same thing. Simple as that!”
It gives a whole new meaning to the term floater. I bet he feels much lighter now!
Difficult words: when nature calls (when you have to go to the bathroom), humble (simple), loo (a toilet), floater (something which floats – moves slowly on water or in the air; floater is also a piece of poo which does not go down the toilet but floats in the toilet – the reporter is making a joke).
