Little polar bear in Toronto - level 3

Little polar bear in Toronto - level 3

Aged just two months old, this adorable little polar bear has taken his first shaky steps.

Weighing less than ten pounds (4.5 kg), the cub is the only one from a litter of three to survive after being born at Toronto Zoo in November.

His first steps come as a relief to zookeepers, who had to take him away from his mother for fear she might harm him.

Polar bears are endangered and are considered to be a species of special concern, as their numbers have fallen in recent years.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, there are fewer than 25,000 polar bears left across the world, making this little chap’s arrival a cause for celebration.

It’s hoped he will grow to be a healthy ambassador for the species.

Difficult words: adorable (cute), cub (baby wild bear), litter (group of baby animals that a mother gives birth to at the same time), chap (man or friend), ambassador (someone who represents something).
