Hedgehog café in Tokyo – level 3

Hedgehog café in Tokyo – level 3

Adorable, gentle, and ever so slightly prickly, hedgehogs are unique animals. And now they have an entire café dedicated to lovers of the spiky creatures.

The niche Tokyo café is called Harry – a play on the Japanese word "hari", meaning "needle". People have been coming from all over to get a chance to spend time with the 30 hedgehogs, all different breeds. And the equivalent of 9 US dollars on weekdays and 12 on weekends can buy you an hour's playing time with the prickly mammals.

"Oh, it's very rare to see a hedgehog. The only way my children can see a hedgehog is to come to place like this. That's why."

"And all the hedgehogs are friendly even though some of them might spike you."

Animal cafés aren't unheard of in Tokyo – there are already cat, rabbit, owl, hawk and even snake cafés in the city. But this one definitely comes with an edge.

Difficult words: prickly (covered in prickles – short pointed outgrowths), spiky (having spikes – sharp points), niche (very special), breed (a kind of living thing), comes with an edge (goes to the extreme or has a sharp point).
