Baby snow leopards – level 3
Meet the Metro Richmond Zoo's latest residents: two new snow leopard cubs. The one male and one female cub have yet to be named, and mother Elsa and father Nitro are first-time parents.
Elsa was raised by human caretakers, but according to the zoo, her maternal instincts seem to be turned on, and she is taking great care of the two one-month-old cubs.
Snow leopards have been considered an endangered species as far back as the early 90s.
These cubs are currently off exhibit in their private den with mom while they develop their initial motor skills and strength. But the public will be able to view these little cuties in just a few months’ time.
Difficult words: metro (metropolitan – relating to a metropolis, the capital of a region), resident (a person/animal who resides – lives somewhere), cub (the young of an animal like the leopard), den (an animal’s hidden home).
