Avalanche in Alaska - level 1
A town in Alaska is in a bad situation. Only one road goes into this town. An avalanche falls on the road.
There’s a lot of snow on the road. The snow is 40 feet (12 metres) deep in some places.
Around 4,000 people are trapped in the town. People cannot go to the town or leave the town. People are clearing away the snow, but it can take a week.
Other parts of the USA have problems, too. Some cities must close schools because of the bad weather. It is not safe to drive.
Difficult words: avalanche (a lot of snow which falls down), trapped (they cannot move), clear (remove), to take a week (the road will not be fixed for a week).
